Back to work

I’m back to work today, after a 2-month absence. During the period when I was off work, my mind kept toying with the idea of self-employment. I just don’t fancy a 9-to-5 anymore. But how soon can I make something of myself before I can make as much as I’m getting paid at the job?
I can’t even answer that because I don’t even know how to be self-employed in the first place.
