Would you want a Golden Screen Cinema credit card?

gsc eon bank credit card 300x50 Would you want a Golden Screen Cinema credit card?

One of the newest co-brand credit card in the market today is a movie card – the GSC-EON Bank Gold & Platinum credit card. When I first saw the advertisement for this new credit card, I was quite surprised to see that such a card could be of interest in the market. I thought most people preferred cards with cash rebates (or maybe that’s just me?).

Anyway, without guessing, one of the features of the GSC-EON Bank Gold or Platinum credit card is that it offers discounts when you purchase movie tickets at any GSC cineplexes (regular movie tickets as well as Gold Class tickets). You also get some discounts for purchasing food and beverages at the food counters of the cineplex. There’re also some privileges in booking your tickets via the Priority Ticketing Lane.

On top of that, you do get a host of other benefits not quite related to GSC. I guess they had to throw in more than just movie ticket discounts in order to entice people to want the card for keeps.

But I do question how many people would be keen on this card. Does it take a movie buff to get all hyped up over this? No doubt this is a free for life card and a cardholder doesn’t lose out on paying annual fees even if he or she isn’t making use of enough discounted movie tickets, but I personally find this card a pretty odd combination.

What do you think of this card? Are you gamed for it?

I would go for a card that offers the widest range of cash rebates.

I’d like to think that getting direct cash rebates (instead of exchanging for gifts or discount vouchers) are akin to getting cash dividends from your investments.

This is especially true if the cash rebates are for ‘necessities’ such as petrol, groceries etc.

For me, movie discounts would not be a good enough reason for signing up another credit card since I am not a frantic movie-goer. If it gives exclusive movie premiere passes, hmm…

I share exactly your thoughts on using a credit card! I must see monetary benefits in using it :)

I have to both agree and disagree with Yow Chuan. Yes cash rebate is good, but seriously if you get a cash rebate of 5% (if i remember correctly on the UOB card offers) vs a 10% discounts? It quite simple isn’t? The monetary benefit here is an additional 5% savings.

But then again, like what Yow Chuan said, cash rebate is mainly for daily spendings like groceries, petrol, and etc which make more relevant sense. I have even gone card transaction on a daily basis as my benefits from this is immaculate. And trust me, having been in the industry, I know my cash bring me less value then my card (both debit & credit).

Anyway, just my two cents. Cheerio
