New withdrawal scheme for EPF

The EPF has approved of some new withdrawals in the new year to come. Homeowners are now allowed to take EPF money to pay for their monthly home installments. I’m not so sure if this is a workable thing. I get a feeling people will tend to abuse this and use the money to buy whatever else they couldn’t afford before.
Could this really be a wise step to take? I don’t think I’ll do it.
