I read in the papers a headline that read “PLUS gives CNY discount”. Since we use that highway during the CNY period to travel south, I thought it’s very nice of PLUS to help us save a little money on the road. Until I read the details of the discount. The discount is given on specific dates and during a specific time period, as follows:
Highway concessionaire PLUS managing director Noorizah Abd Hamid said in a statement yesterday that the discount would be applicable from 12.01am to 7am on Jan 21, 22, 23, 26, 29 and 30. (source: The Star Online)
First of all, how many cars travel during the time that they are giving away the 10% toll discount? I’m sure there are some cars, but not many people are willing to drive outstation in the middle of the night or in the wee hours of the morning. Secondly, I’m sure they have also selected dates which not many people choose to travel home for the new year celebration. So all in all, PLUS is making sure that their discounts aren’t enjoyed by majority of travellers. But they look good anyway coming out in the newspapers to say they’re generously giving us discounts. Such cheats. So cheap!
