Property investment

Recently I’ve been keen to invest in a property. I browsed and came across a mid-end, landed residential property which I thought was a good buy. I showed it to a friend to ask for opinions but she seemed to think it was too far to be a good investment. I asked another and got the same response. So I threw away the advertisement and am now looking afresh for something worthwhile.
My friend suggested to buy something of higher-end if my intention was to invest. I would love to but where do I have the money to buy it in the first place?
