Some benefits of using Western Union over a cheque include not having to wait for the cheque to pass through the snail mail from the US and I think it is also more expensive to cash out the US dollar cheque to our local currency versus the small commission charged on Western Union. Whilst you may have to wait quite a while for a foreign cheque to clear in a local bank, a withdrawal through Western Union is immediate.
