USD50k to buy space suit for memory sake – money well spent?

by Penny on March 15, 2009

I was surprised to read in today’s papers that Mara is vying to buy the space suit worn by Sheikh Muszaphar as a memento to be put up in a mini museum. And this purchase is to the tune of US$50,000!

This converts to about RM185,000. That’s a lot of money to be spent when times are bad like this. I personally think the money could be put to  better use to help others or to create something of value. Instead of buying something to be put in a museum!

I don’t know how Mara is run, but I sure hope that the money they have is not contributed by our tax money. We already sponsored the guy into space for him to have a good tour and be conferred a Datukship, I don’t wish to contribute to buying a space suit as a museum piece!

The money is from our tax money. Even to fly his ass to space was our tax money. Now they buy the suit to keep in the muzeum. If you ask me we should put Sheikh Muszaphar in the muzeum then at least got interactive display for the malaysians on how to be make the government to spend millions to sent us into space.

Sometimes it is so sad being a tax payer. The higher the income the more taxes to pay. Really angry at how the money was spent… sigh..

Hahaha, that’s a good one StephenStreets! It makes a lot more sense than to spend that $50k.

Amy, perhaps we should make more conscious efforts to maximise savings on income tax. Legally, of course ;)

They’ll come up with about 100 reasons why they should buy the space suit. By now everyone has forgotten about the so called experiments he did in space.

The Russians did a nice number on us by adding this space flight to the cost of Sukhoi fighter jets that we bought (another plum contract under the Defence Minstry).

Perhaps the world looks at us Malaysians as suckers?

The suit is memorable … why not? They do this for Malaysia, not Malaysian but spending Malaysians’ money.

Moreincome, we sure look like big time suckers in the eyes of the world now. Not only suckers but a bunch of clowns in the political arena too!

Forex-tiwisue, I don’t care why or for whom they are doing this for…it just looks silly to me. So sad that I have to contribute towards something I totally don’t support!
