Would you quit your job as a way to boycott the US?

by Penny on January 12, 2009

In the recent Gaza attacks, there have been calls to boycott buying US products and the US currency. We have always been exposed to all kinds of boycotts here so I wasn’t surprised by these calls. But what I found to be totally inappropriate were urges to those who work for American companies to quit their jobs as a way to boycott.

How many people are patriotic enough to land themselves jobless to support the boycott? Would boycotting these companies and their products bring much harm to the US? I doubt so. Be realistic, we aren’t the biggest importer of US products. We aren’t going to hurt them anymore than we will hurt ourselves!

If there are brave souls out there who have beaten out loud on their chests and handed in their resignations to their fellow American employers, I wish you all the best! I work for an American firm and I’m not yet willing to give up the salaries that they are paying me.

Of course not. Crazy meh? With jobless rates on the increase, one would be crazy to do so. Also, how can you boycott US when the very processor your laptop/PC is using, is from US? What bout Coke? Cars? Firefox browser? So many things are from US.

The people who came out with this idea must be crazy or brainless.

First of all the idea of boycotting US goods locally is a silly idea. Most of the workers at the plants, factories & offices are our own M’sians! Plus the effects are going to be miniscule at best.

And where does it end then, when the war stops? Or as long as the US supports Israel? And to what extend? Stop using the Internet? No FB & Google? Heck don’t even use the PC coz one way or another they’re all invented in the US!

Silly la this idea. How to boycott US products and firms and quit our jobs?? So silly, some more no apparent results from doing this also.

Alvin, absolutely, with companies retrenching and freezing recruitment, it’s not like we can find job the very next day in this state of economy!

Mike, totally agree it’s a silly idea. We might as well go back to the times without computers and internet if we really boycott all things American!

Financial Fool, you are back online?! Welcome back! :) Yupe, unreasonable to ask people of all things to quit their jobs!

Well, if we have thousands of income per month entering into our bank accounts without doing anything….we can just say anything we want including something silly like boycotting US :)
